When I was a little boy and the few existing TV stations had to find programming to fill the time, one of the things they did was take the old movie serials of the '30s and '40s and show them as half-hour TV shows. One of my favorites was Flash Gordon which was still running as a color comic in Hearst papers on Sundays. I was mightily impressed by Ming the Merciless of the Planet Mongo.
I have a vid of the complete serial which I watch some or all of from time to time with complete pleasure. I still dig Ming the most. And the art deco sets...
