CAVALIER SHOOTING: Gunman charged
Hensel, N.D., farmer hospitalized after shootout with officers over protection order

CAVALIER, N.D. - James Thorlakson, the Hensel, N.D., farmer arrested late Friday for shooting a police officer and setting two public buildings on fire, was charged Saturday with eight counts of attempted murder.

Pembina County Sheriff Wayne Samdahl confirmed many of the details that were rumored late Friday, including that Thorlakson was arrested at a Park River, N.D., hospital, about 30 miles south of Cavalier. Thorlakson drove himself to the hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds sustained in several confrontations with authorities, Samdahl said.

Thorlakson, who was listed in stable condition at Altru Hospital late Saturday, has several charges pending. He has no prior criminal records, Samdahl said... http://tinyurl.com/7lw95
