Occam's razor, anyone?
Why multiply agents in this plot when it can be boiled, distilled and chilled down to one simple explanation: STUPIDITY.
When Butterballman, Mr. Mayberry Machiavelli hisself, was a back alley operative, he was in his element. He could shoot spitballs from the back row, knowing that he was well out of range of any fallout or blowback.
Now that he has been brought out into the open, he's left dangling like the political piñata that he deserves to be. He is not the scheming genius that everyone makes him out to be. As I mentioned before:
* He couldn't pull the plug on the Schiavo fiasco.
* He couldn't hit the brakes on the Social Security Private Accounts trainwreck.
* His chickenhawk buds can't shoot straight in Iraq.
* He couldn't stop the gang o' 14 from putting the pin back into the Filibuster grenade.
* He was left to herd a mad pile of cats in the Bolton charade.

He's an idiot, pure and simple."
