Al Franken did an interesting and poignant segment today; the moment in the White House press briefing where you could hear Scott McClelland's heart break. Played in isolation on tape I thought I could hear it, too. It's something I fancy only those who're emotionally intelligent can hear and I fancy that I am. It's a quality that isn't valued very highly anymore and is, in fact, a disability in business and the business of politics. I've heard it said that in DC if you want a loyal friend get a dog.
When a reporter asked Scott about putting his reputation 'on the line' by having asserted that it was 'ridiculous' to think Karl Rove would 'out' a working, undercover CIA officer for political revenge there was a pause and at that point you could hear his heart break. He realized, for just a fleeting second, that he'd been royally lied to. And then quickly got on with the business of dissembling. Keep busy, don't think about it, it's business. That's what they say in SOPRANOS-land right before they pull the trigger. The sociopaths like Rove enjoy it but they still say,"it's business."
Of all the evil shit Karl Rove's done, lieing to Scott McClelland is pretty minor. Afterall we're talking about 'Bush's Brain'. The guy who got the guy who once said "The French have no word for entrepreneur" elected President of the United States. But it's still pretty sad...
Anyway, got to keep busy, got to move on...
