It seems to me that everybody's getting a chance to get a good look if they're willing to take it. Not everybody is.
Fundraising emails and letters are circulating with a radar picture of Katrina next to a picture of a fetus illustrating "God's" displeasure at NOLA and environs because of the presence there of clinics that provide birth control services including abortion. Other "Christian" groups are centering their charitable efforts around the usual cast of villains: homosexuals, pagans, people who take pleasure in anything, etc. You can sign a direct deposit form for your Social Security check so it goes directly into the Rev. Scumbag's bank account.
Putting aside these full-time, full-service assholes for a moment...we are currently being afforded the opportunity to get a load of what the world looks like when it's controlled by the right wing.
The Iraq occupation illustrates the neoconservative foreign policy. Death for the poor, wealth for the rich.
The Gulf Coast diaster illustrates the "starve government until it can be drowned in a bath tub" philosophy of the Grover Norquist wing of the Republican Party.
This is it folks. Just imagine this being everyday forever. A boot in the face forever as Orwell had it.
How long can things go on this way? Can we wait 'til '06? '08?
There's some folks with the power and the wherewithal that need to step up.
I have no precise plan. There are people and institutions that are supposed to. The institutions sworn to protect and serve our inalienable rights as human beings and those that do so by profession have been taken over by criminals. Something's got to be done.
